Frequently asked questions

What is the best time of the year to visit?

Any time of the year promises a wonderful visit to Vida Mountain. The main difference between high season (December – April) and green season (May – November) is the chance of rain, as there is less rainfall during high season. But don’t be fooled! A “rainy day” in Costa Rica is usually characterized by a sunny and warm morning with a few hours of rain in the afternoon, and can be bookended by pleasant weather in the evening.

The rain is a great opportunity to marvel at nature’s beauty and relax. You may even be blessed with the serene and calming sounds of a nocturnal shower as you sleep.

Does it rain every day in the Green Season?
Not necessarily. We typically see the most rain in September and October, ranging from exciting and showy thunderstorms to light come and go showers.
What payment methods are accepted?

We accept cash in both U.S. Dollars and Costa Rican Colones as well as Visa and Mastercard. Some companies will apply an additional charge for international transactions. We suggest you check with your credit card company if in doubt.

Is there Wi-Fi at the resort?
Yes, we have complimentary high speed fiber optic wireless internet throughout the resort for our
guests to enjoy.
Will my cell phone work?
That depends on your cell phone carrier and international call rates. Most of our guests find they do not need cell phone service, as most communication can be done over the internet.
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes, all of our water here at Vida Mountain comes from our own aqueduct and is mountain spring
water. Please bring a reusable water bottle or purchase one from our office to refill during your stay.
Do I need any vaccines to visit Costa Rica?
No vaccines are required in order to visit Costa Rica.
Should I leave a tip?

Gratuities are much appreciated by our staff, although not mandatory. Should you decide to tip, the amount is completely up to you. As we consider ourselves a united team in the service we provide, our tips are divided evenly among our staff. You may leave a tip for our team upon check out either with cash or by adding it to your room bill for payment with a credit card (keep in mind that about 4% is deducted from credit card transactions).

What are Costa Rica’s entry requirements?

All non-citizens are required to present a valid passport upon entry which will be stamped in
immigration at the airport with your approved length of stay, usually up to 90 days.

Do I need an adapter for my electronic devices?
Our voltage in Costa Rica is 110 volts and 60 hertz, the same as in the United States and Canada.
What is the local exchange rate?

The exchange rate for U.S. Dollars can vary slightly day by day. Here at Vida Mountain, we go by the rate posted by Banco Nacional (National Bank) in Costa Rica. You can see the daily rate posted at www.bncr.fi.cr in the top right hand corner. If you are changing dollars to colones, look for the “venta” rate.

Do I need local currency?

We accept U.S. dollars or credit/debit cards for all transactions. Most points of sale in Costa Rica will accept dollars, but if you plan to pay in cash at local places such as supermarkets or the farmers market, then local currency or U.S. dollars in small bills is recommended.

Where should I exchange currency?

Our ability to exchange currency at the resort is very limited. If you would like local currency, we recommend visiting a local bank or ATM before you arrive at the resort. Exchange rates are much higher at the airport.

What timezone is Costa Rica in?
We are aligned with Central Standard Time. We do not, however, observe daylight savings time.
What should I pack? Is there a dress code?

Dress code at Vida Mountain is casual. We recommend packing for both warm and cooler
temperatures, as weather can shift throughout the day and sometimes it can get a bit windy.

Don’t forget your swimsuit, and if you plan to walk our trail we recommend lightweight long pants and closed toed shoes.

Should I rent a car?

We are happy to arrange airport and tour transportation for you through local providers we are connected with. If you choose to rent a car (we recommend a GPS), you are welcome to park it in our secure parking area.

How do you get to Vida Mountain?

We are located west of the city of San Ramón in the province of Alajuela. From San José or the
airport, follow the Pan American Route 1 west to San Ramón, then make your way through town to the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR).

From there, follow route 742 and the signs marked along the way for about 12.5 miles (20 km) to Vida Mountain.

From the airport the average driving time is about 90 minutes. Late afternoons and early evenings may involve a bit more traffic on the main highway.

From the central coast, follow the Pan American Route 1 east to San Ramón, then follow the
instructions above.

We warn against taking the shortest route recommended on Google Maps and Waze, as it will take you through very difficult and unmaintained back roads.

How are the roads along the route?

The roads are paved most of the way to the resort, however you will find sections of dirt and gravel road which are passable with any type of car. Four wheel drive is not necessary.
